With several years of corporate and government administration in Scotland and Canada under her hat, Brenda attended the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy in Toronto in 1978 and became certified as a Massage Therapist under the Drugless Practitioners Act of Ontario plus the Association of Physiotherapists and Massage Practitioners of British Columbia.
She opened a private practice, worked in a physiotherapy clinic and taught theory, technique and clinical courses at the Sutherland-Chan School of Massage in Toronto, ultimately advancing to the position of Principal of the school. She also worked with the budding Ontario Massage Therapists Association.
Throughout her career, Brenda has studied many forms of therapeutic touch, movement and exercise, integrating and developing her own unique style of careful bodywork customized to the needs of each client. The traditional medical model based solidly on anatomy and physiology plus psychology, philosophy, energy balancing have served to build her unique composition of techniques and approaches. Her move to the Virgin Islands in 1987 brought additional learning opportunities: in sailing, managing high-end residential property and adapting to island life.
Brenda re-established a full-time massage therapy practice in 1994 and opened A Touch of Wellness in the island of St Thomas in May of 1995. She holds the American National Certification in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, is a member of Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals, the National Association of Professional Women and earned the title of Certified Life Coach through the Coach Training Alliance, and Intrinsic Coach through Totally Coached.
In 1997 she developed a line of natural aromatherapy personal-care products Scents and Botanicals which she produced and sold successfully with great pleasure until relocating to Florida in January of 2011.
As well as training massage therapists for certification, Brenda has delivered workshops and speeches to a variety of audiences. She developed and taught a 40-hour program at the University of the Virgin Islands center for Community Enhancement and Lifelong Learning. She is currently creating a mentoring program for massage therapists to develop their practice/business and offers wellness coaching for individuals wanting to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
