Healers have always used nature as their guide and inspiration:  and nature has always provided tools that resonate with us because we are part of nature.  Anyone who's watched a tree recover from the damage of a hurricane, or the skin grow over a wound can tell you that nature heals herself when given the opportunity.

Through the ages, all cultures have utilized the stones, crystals and plants around them, as well as the bones and skin, etc. of animals to help them heal and survive.  The heating of stones has been used in spiritual rituals -- like the sweat lodges of the American Indians -- and for the basic needs of cooking.  Rock, stone, earth, clay are primal and address something profound in us which is perhaps inexplicable.

As for myself, I have a long Celtic heritage and rings of standing stones (like Stonehenge) appeal to me.  Since childhood, I've gathered and kept stones from places I've been that were meaningful to me, to keep the energy of that place with me.

The stones I use in my Healing Stone Massage are gathered from the north-east coast of the USA and the beaches of Scotland and the Virgin Islands in the Caribbean.  They are chosen for their varied sizes, texture and composition....and because they feel right in my hands. All things on planet earth are subject to geomagnetism and electromagnetism and these forces affect our health and wellbeing.

Electromagnetism, the marriage of electricity and magnetism, makes all life possible.  It is the movement and transference of the energy created between negatively and positively charged ions.  In the human energy field, electromagnetic energy is a self-generating circuit.  However, we are influenced chemically, emotionally, physically by our environments, and if these environments are stressful and inharmonious, they cause ionic distortion and derangement, generally an overload of positively charged ions, leading to some degree of illness.

Healing, in this case, takes place when negative ions are reintroduced into the system, balancing and harmonizing the electromagnetic field.

Our bodies are approximately 80% water and water is the all-important medium that transports nutrients and metabolic waste products throughout the body.  It maintains temperature within the body, regulating heat and cold.  In the form of cerebrospinal fluid, it carries messages through the central nervous system and between the brain and endocrine (hormone) system.

Water molecules are charged both positively and negatively, causing them to act like magnets, so the fluids of the body are influenced when you introduce the geomagnetic and electromagnetic energy of the stones.  Water acts as a conductor of the geomagnetic force in the stone and this influence carries throughout the body.
